After years of waiting, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) launched the 2021 Isuzu D-Max Pickup. It might look a tad familiar but the new D-Max is definitely new from the ground up. Incidentally, the first full model change since 2012.

Since the word got out last year that the new Isuzu D-max model is looming, inquisitive media guys researched the net and naturally looked at the Australian and Thai market– where the first models are usually introduced months in advance. While the new body style was expected, it was the full suite of advanced safety technology and creature comforts included that were now the points of contention. Will they appear in the Philippine version? Well, now we know.

New Engine

The All-New Isuzu D-MAX is now powered by the new 4JJ3-TCX which uses a highly advance Isuzu common rail system that can deliver responsive power and top performance capable of producing 190 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque. It’s still displaces 3.0 liters; same size as before but completely different inside.

Also available is the frugal 1.9liter RZ4E-TC engine also boasts an improved engine performance, that promises faster acceleration and better overtaking performance that can produce 150PS of maximum power and 350 newton meters of torque.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE

Design and engineering innovations are now integrated in the new D-Max, such as the one-piece aluminum tail shaft, newly designed steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, redesigned gear lever for better gear selection and control (for both MT and AT), Terrain Command Select Dial, and electronic differential lock—ensures that the D-MAX can overcome virtually all types of terrain. (Note that these are the new features that were present in the Aussie and Thai versions, so there!)

Looking good but built tougher, thanks to its engineering innovations such as the new front suspension geometry, chassis design featuring larger side rails and 8 cross member for torsional rigidity, new rear leaf spring design, ultra-high tensile steel reinforced cabin structure, and a semi mid-ship engine design.

Maximum towing capacity remains 3500kg, There are better ground clearance (240mm), approach (30.5 degrees), and departure angles (24.2 degrees) than before , which will surely bring confidence to 4×4 enthusiasts.

The new D-max has a longer wheelbase and a wider footprint than before, but it’s shorter bumper-to-bumper (comparable to major competition), and has a tighter turning circle of 12.5 meters to make it easier to handle in both urban and off road drive. Wading depth is now improved: 800mm, up from 600mm.

An electric power steering system has replaced the previous hydraulic set-up, less load on the engine means more power available.

Interior Features

The D-max can rival more premium SUVs with its creature comforts, and safety technology such as wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice control. Comes with full touch screen display its features an improved navigation system, all paired with a superb surround sound system.

The new D-MAX also comes with a welcome light system which automatically illuminates the cabin room when the driver is approaching the vehicle. Along with this, the D-MAX also has a new auto lock system, follow me home light function, new turn indicator function and a remote start engine functionality.
