The practical Entry Level SUV
With the SUV Wars on full steam, it is but natural that all manufacturers, China based included, will produce their own versions of the SUV. While most have 4×4 versions, some brands opted for the Crossovers/SUV with sedan like qualities. This is where HAIMA shines; the S7 possesses car-like qualities in a big package, it’s their version of the compact SUV.
Northern Luzon Market. Without tapping the Metro Manila market, Haima has made its mark in the automotive industry by tapping Central and Northern Luzon market by selling very affordable vehicles; from sub compacts to MPVs to SUVs. The S7 is a very popular model, showing its versatility in the rough roads of the province, and exhibiting finesse in the long stretches of highway.
At first glance, the S7 looks more like a big crossover than an SUV, thanks to its, lower road clearance. This is a boon for passengers who struggle with higher vehicle ingress and egress. This is a huge departure from the usual hulking SUVs with higher floor clearance and bigger diameter wheels.
The front gives out a dominating look, as it sports a large gaping honeycomb grille, with the wide lower valance panel in the same design pattern. A silver line surrounds both the DRLs and the panel to simulate an intercooler opening.
Blacked-out fender extensions give the S7 a muscular and sporty look. The rear also has design cues like air spoiler, lower faux bumper protector, rectangular reflector slots and the indomitable dual exhausts. Silver roof railings also give out that sporty SUV vibe.
The stock 5-spoke, 16in rolling stock is attractive and n the design profile. You can opt for larger diameter tires if you so wish, as the fender opening can accommodate bigger sets.
The dash design is now more akin to the Japanese template; more readable gauges, easy to reach controls and flowing lines that complement the overall design. However, the power door locks are located below the AC controls, which takes a lot of getting used to.
The seats feature two-tone fabric upholstery that give the interior much pizzaz. The brown fabric has curvy line design that is easy on the eyes. The door panels have the same fabric as inserts.
There is a rear charger port for the rear passengers, located at the bottom half of the front console box.
The 8-inch LCD Display with FM/AM/MP3/ gives good sound quality to four speakers. The larger display is readable even for the rear passengers. The colors are subdued so as not to distract the driver at night.
The 1.8 liter, 16-Valve turbocharged engine is still impressive, runs quietly, but emits a low growl when the accelerator is mashed. The torque is more than enough to propel the S7 even with 5 passengers and cargo to highway speeds.
The 6-Speed transmission has both automatic and manual shifting. Performance driving is enhanced with the manual option, maximizing shift points to achieve optimum power, depending on driver’s preference.
The Haima S7 SUV is very affordable, powerful and has ample passenger and cargo space. However, it does not have the other accouterments that are present in more expensive SUVs. Having said that, the Haima S7 is still recommended as an entry- level vehicle to those wanting the solid image, those go-getters that prioritize the practicality of an automobile.
