Every now and then, one inconspicuous manufacturer comes up with a product that simply startles the industry. One fine example is the new Maxus G10 Minivan. If first impressions last, this van will definitely linger in your memory. AC Automotive looks like it has a winner here.
At first glance, the overall aesthetics catches your attention; it’s not your typical China-sourced design. It boasts more of a European influence; sleek and low. The design is more akin to a wagon than a passenger van– a short hood, big panoramic windows and side skirts(!) emit a sporty look. A rather generous roof line gives more headroom than usual. 6-spoke rims don’t hurt. It’s not your typical mom-van.
The interior is also something to boast about. The driver seat is all power, and is quite comfy, thank you. The front passenger seat is set apart by a wide center console that houses a deep storage space, cup holders and surprise! a 220V charger at the back, which is aimed at the rear passengers.
The second and third row are all Captain’s chairs. Leg room is conservative but ample enough for average height persons. All have adjustable rails and have the much-appreciated armrests. The last row is a bench type seat, which can accommodate 3 persons, however, cargo space is nil when the bench is unfolded. Limited cargo space is provided when that seat is folded.
The touchscreen entertainment system is a bit smaller than usual but has USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Sound quality is satisfactory, but if you need better sound quality, replace the speakers.
AC controls are available on both front and rear. Nice touch.
The G10 is powered by a 1.9-liter VGT turbo diesel engine that exerts a tough 148 horsepower (150PS) and 350 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain gives more than enough power even at full load. The only downside here is the loud diesel valve train of the engine, courtesy of a chain drive instead of rubber belt. Well, it is designed for longevity.

The PWD friendly G10
Maxus has also made available a Maxus G10 van that can be accessorised specifically for PWDs or mobility-challenged passengers. Making it much easier for senior citizens to ride the van, the 2nd row passenger seat is fully automated; it will swing out of the van, settle just inches above the ground, enabling the PWD to mount the special seat without the difficulty of ingress and egress — or actual climbing in and out of the van.
The G10 Assist is mechanically similar to the regular G10, just with the special Assist mechanism. The assist seat can accommodate individuals up to 250 lbs.
- G10 price–PHP1.68 million
