Auto Nation Group (ANG), importer and distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the country, released the new CLA in a fun and hip party at the Versus Barcade in Bonifacio Global City – an apt venue, if you ask anyone.
The second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA, showcases a sleeker, sportier and revolutionary design that best embodies the sporty and luxurious profile, from its emotional engineering, to the improved MBUX system.
“As a four-door coupé, the new CLA intrigues with its puristic, seductive profile and brings the design DNA of ‘sensual purity’ to a new level. It is compelling for its perfect proportions, which are very close to the initial design sketches: a long, stretched bonnet, a compact greenhouse, a wide track with flared wheel arches and our typical GT rear end with a pronounced ‘Coke-bottle shoulder’,” says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG.
The Mercedes Benz CLA is not your usual “Grandfather’s Car”, it’s actually looks more sporty than luxurious. Featuring a low-slung hood, a high belt line and minimal accent lines, it exudes a serious and competitive aura that covers it’s luxury origins.
The cabin is filled with premium leather, and very comfortable to say the least. The front seats are sports car influenced; with fixed headrests and opening to simulate 4pt. seatbelt access point.
The dash is somewhat minimal, with LED screens providing all information at a flick of a switch. The smooth and straight width is given a little pizzaz in the middle by three round AC vents, a little throwback design cue. The steering wheel is replete with all buttons that control all essential features: From cruise control, entertainment selection, to drive modes and everything in between, It takes a little getting used to, though
The CLA comes with the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience system, and get this — it features a voice-operated virtual assistant. You can “order” the system to do anything you say. Well, almost anything. You can adjust the climate control system, play your favorite music or even start the navigation system, all by voice command.
Amazingly, the new CLA delivers both power and performance with its in-line 1.3 liter, 4-cylinder engine mated with a 7G-DCT 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, producing an output and torque of 136hp and 200Nm, respectively. What may be perceived as a minuscule engine, is actually more powerful enough to propel this sedan to high speeds. 18in wheels don’t hurt.
Safety above all
All those fine features are useless without the safety features: These include Active Parking Assist with rear-view camera, Active Brake Assist, Adaptive brake lights, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (EPS), Acceleration Skid Control, and Hill-Start Assist among others. It’s also equipped with a Pedestrian Protection Active bonnet as well as multiple airbags for the driver and front passenger including windowbags and kneebag for the driver.
Colors available are:
