Since the inception of the ubiquitous Jeep over 70 years ago, it survived WW2, the Korean War, Vietnam War and numerous other conflicts around the globe, and flourished over time. What started as a personnel carrier became a general- purpose vehicle that can go anywhere while tugging heavy equipment in a trailer. It then evolved to civilian recreation vehicle that still can go anywhere, anytime; giving credence to the invulnerability of this little truck that could.
Here in the Philippines, it enjoys decades old popularity, thanks to that darn CJ5 and CJ7 that first brought 4WD adventure to baby boomer enthusiasts.
Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM vehicles in the country launched the All-New Generation Wrangler. To those who are unfamiliar, the new Jeep grew from the short wheelbase to a 4-dr vehicle. Recognized today as Jeep’s most capable SUV and the embodiment of the iconic All-American brand, the all-new generation Wrangler is at par with today’s modern cars, from its overall exterior and cabin design to its fuel-efficient powertrains and advanced safety and technology features.
Keeping true to its iconic status, the all-new Wrangler keeps its rugged-yet-distinguished stance while sporting a modern design as seen in the redesigned 7-slot grille, head lamp and square tail lamps among others. The interior combines authentic styling, versatility, comfort and intuitive feature use.
“The Jeep brand is well-recognized around the world and there is no vehicle that represents the essence of Jeep the same way the Wrangler does. Its comeback is also timely for us as we mark our 15th anniversary with the brand as its official importer and distributor in the Philippines,” said Francis Jonathan C. Ang, chief operating officer of Auto Nation Group.
Abandoning the large displacement engine system (NA 6-cylinders), the new Jeep Wrangler now utilizes a smaller but more powerful EURO 6 rated (268hp @ 5250rpms 400Nm @ 3,000rpms) 4-cylinder DOHC DI turbocharged powerplant that’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Engineers found a way to squeeze more power and torque while improving fuel efficiency, not to mention less weight, for a more nimble Wrangler. We all know that weight is the number one enemy of off-roading. Of course, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is still available for those old-school guys.
One of the best features here is the quick removal of doors and roof, mainly because of the much simpler mechanisms and lightweight aluminum material of the doors. A video showed removal of all components within 19 minutes, so easy that even women can do it. Now, who says that you can’t remove your top and have fun too!
In lieu of the electronic push-button shifter, the Jeep Wrangler still retains the old-style Shifter lever, and with good reason! Going off road comes with the probability of water submersion; manual shifters have less chance of malfunction or electric mishaps. The 4×4 mode is activated with SelecTrac full time 4WD system.
The Jeep is serious about all-terrain travel.
- Full airbag system
- Blind spot monitors
- Parking sensors
- Hill start and descent control
- Speed-sensing door locks
- Tire pressure monitors
- Traction control
- Electronic Roll Mitigation
- Advanced Brake Assist
- Child Seat Upper Tether Anchorage (Isofix)
- Headlamp leveling system
- Integrated Voice Command with Bluetooth
- Occupant Detection System
- Keyless Go
The Jeep Wrangler is equipped with seemingly small 245/75/17 All Terrain tires, on 17.7.5 steel styled wheels. The main reason here is that 99.9% of Jeep Buyers upgrade to bigger tires upon leaving the dealership. Makes sense, actually. But with stock wheels, it still has a respectable 41.4-degree approach angle.
All introduced is the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the premium SUV for that discerning adventurer. It also features the iconic 7-slot grille and rugged stance that made the Jeep brand a force to reckon with. The interior is oozing with elegance, with luxurious seat material and state of the art entertainment system.
The Grand Cherokee can be had with either two gasoline and one diesel engine that offers exceptional performance and fuel economy.
The all-new generation Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are now available for reservations at all Jeep dealerships nationwide (EDSA Greenhills, Alabang, Clark Pampanga and Cebu) at the following price points:
• All-New Generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport – PHP 3,590,000.00
• All-New Generation Jeep Wrangler Sport 2-dr) – PHP 3,390,000.00
