Ever since the new Suzuki Jimny was presented to the public in the middle of 2018, the public went crazy. Everyone was asking..er…pestering Suzuki Philippines as when the Jimny will be made available? How much? What engine? What variants are to be sold etc. It didn’t help if the previous announcement of the official release date was mid 2019. Suzuki had a lot on their plate.
Rumors abound during those months leading to 2019; namely: That the price was more expensive (true), now has a smaller turbocharged engine (true but only for Japan), is much bigger in size (false) and looked like a Merc (well…) One thing was sure: everyone had to have one, and mid-year availability won’t cut it.
Well, the powers-that-be at Suzuki Ph must have heard the cries, so they officially launched the all-new Jimny last March! In a colorful public launch in BGC, the rumors were finally laid to rest. The all-new Suzuki Jimny is finally here, and how! The bad news? All units are seemingly sold out and Suzuki Japan is barely producing enough units.
The new look features a straight and flat fascia as compared to its predecessor. The grille still retains those vertical slats, but Suzuki brought back the retro round headlights (with park amps inside) Overall, this new Jimny boasts of a boxier body that seems to be the design trend nowadays. It offers more interior space, and more importantly, looks drop-dead gorgeous.
The powertrain is a bigger 1.5-liter K15B engine, with 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque. Transmission options are: 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. The GL trim is available with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. However, the GLX comes only with the 4-speed automatic.
Anyway, here are the official images of the all-new Suzuki Jimny.
