(L-R) SPH President Hiroshi Suzuki, and SPH Director and General Manager for Automobile Keiichi Suzuki, SMC Ertiga Chief Engineer Satoshi Kasahara and SPH Managing Director Norminio Mojica cap off the launch of the new MPV Suzuki Ertiga with a celebratory toast.

Already a popular 7-passenger MPV in the local market, the new Suzuki boasts an array of improvements that will sure excite new car buyers. Starting off with a taller nose profile with a profound and classier front grille, now in line with the top of the headlights,a as opposed to the oversize ones from its predecessor. The lower roof side provides a more sportier side view. The integrated lower grille and fog lamps add a stronger fascia character and makes the car look aggressive. Deeper curves on the side and shoulder and character lines were added for added sportier styling cues and a stronger impact.

The Old and the New

Inside, The new steering wheel features a flat bottom for better leg clearance while the gauges are complimented with metallic chrome for a sleeker look. The seats have a deep curb with the fabric showing a 3D effect. The seats are finished in a bright shade of Beige, with faux wood inserts, making it pleasing to the eye while maintaining the elegant effect.

One dash feature that stands out is the center-console screen, that looks similar to a mid-sized tablet. While this is OEM, this will certainly attract the attention of the local traffic enforcers. Anyway, it looks right at home in the Ertiga. Another welcome feature is the charger port for the second row passengers. Located at the rear of the front console box, it’s conveniently placed on the top, minimizing tangled wires and legs.

Replacing the rather smallish 1.4 litre is the new 1.5-liter four-banger engine known as the K15B. It has 103PS/6000rpm, with 138Nm of torque at 4400 rpm. The choice of transmission is still the same,  with either a four-speed automatic transmission or the reliable 5-speed manual gearbox. Tire size is now 185/65/15.
