Mazda Philippines recently held its annual media thanksgiving gathering at its plush dealership at Pasong Tamo extension in Makati, to celebrate not only of camaraderie but to the continuous success of Mazda vehicle sales.
Joining the party was the whole team team PartsPro-Car Porn Racing which fielded a Mazda MX-5 roadster at the just-concluded Petron 4 Oras ng Pilipinas and Petron Kalayaan Cup with the collective talent pool of Marc Soong of Autostrada, Ms. Angie Mead King of Carporn Racing, Carlos and Iñigo Anton and Champion driver/instructor Allan Uy.
For those who are not in the know, the Petron x 4 Oras ng Pilipinas is an endurance race that ran the first 4 hours of the inaugural Petron Kalayaan Cup 12-hour race. These events were held last June 12, 2018, at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Team PartsPro x Car Porn Racing’s Mazda MX-5 took the cudgels and went home victorious. Among the awards are the 4 Oras ng Pilipinas FM1 Class Champion and 4 Oras ng Pilipinas Overall.
Father and son tandem Carlos and Iñigo Anton with teammates from Parts Pro X Carporn racing team, emerged triumphant in an otherwise stock MX-5. Carlos also stated jovially that since the Mazda was so reliable right off the bat, they actually used the AC while waiting on the grid, and also because of the engine efficiency, they actually had more fuel in the tank left compared to their counterparts. The talented team also went on to finish 3rd overall and 2nd in FM1 in the 12-hour Petron Kalayaan Cup, completing 228 laps around the 4.2-kilometer Clark International Speedway.
The only modifications for the ragtop were wider rims and tires, aero kit ( for sleeker aerodynamics) and a lower and stiffer suspension system. The engine remained untouched. Despite this, the car met far more than their expectations-A testament to the famed Mazda engine.
“I think we shocked the field finishing that high up in the standing using a basically stock Mazda Miata against full blown race cars,” team manager Billy Billano said after the race.
Bermaz Auto Philippines (BAP), President Steven Tan also took the gathering as an opportunity to introduce some of Mazda’s latest models. Displayed was the Mazda 2 with 2 special editions; First, the Java Edition, which sports a new Titanium Flesh paintwork. Secondly, is the Katana Edition, which is tinted in a smooth hue of Machine Grey.
For the MX-5-RF version, it sports a Black Leather interior motif. Still available is the roadster with the subdued dark red soft-top and Nappa Leather interior.
As for the elegant CX-9, the 7-seat SUV added a Sport Touring variant, which has a Front Wheel Drive configuration. This SUV comes with a turbocharged 2.5L SkyActiv engine, G-Vectoring Control, dark silver 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, MZD Connect in-car infotainment system, and 6 airbags. Mazda also added a 3-year Free Maintenance package to sweeten the deal. SRP of the Sport Touring is Php 2,350,000.
“The CX-9 Sport Touring represents Mazda Philippines’ desire to provide customers a prestigious product at a more attractive price point,” says Mr. Tan. “It is the only premium 7-seater crossover below 2.5 million pesos and it delivers the same plush interiors, superior car-like riding and comfort and handling as well as outstanding performance and fuel economy as its Grand Touring sibling.” Mr Tan added.
